A man who was left with brain damage after being hit on the head by a heavy saw could seek accident compensation after the company he worked for were fined for health and safety breaches.
Nicholas Holmes, from Bradford, was delivering panel saws when one fell off the lorry and hit him on the head.
An investigation by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) found that Mr Holmes’ employers, Joda Freight, didn’t have a system in place to warn drivers about the securing and stability of the loads they carried.
In Mr Holmes’ case, once he removed the securing straps, the loads became unstable, fell and caused his personal injury.
After the case, HSE inspector Jean Edgar commented that “this was a horrific incident and will have terrible consequences for Mr Holmes and his family for many years to come.”
