An airman who was left paralysed after suffering a neck injury has won the right to make a personal injury claim against the Ministry of Defence (MoD).

Robert Uren was 21 at the time of the incident, which happened whilst he was taking part in an It’s a Knockout-style game staged at an event in Buckinghamshire.

He sustained his life-changing neck injury when he dived into an inflatable pool filled with 18 inches of water and struck his head on the bottom.

The force broke his neck and has left him with no movement in his legs and only slight movement in his arms.

His initial personal injury claim was turned down in the High Court after the judge commented that "such activities are almost never risk-free," but the Court of Appeal has now reversed the ruling.
